The HK416 is an assault rifle developed by the German arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch. It is one of the weapons available to Ghost Recon, specifically Scouts.

In Ghost ReconEdit

The HK416 appears in the PC version of GRAW 2, used by both the Ghosts and the Panamanian Mercenaries. It is called the M-416 in game.

The weapon is also used by the Scout class in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Predator.

It is also available in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wii.

The HK416 appears in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms as the "M27" and is available to the Assault Class.

Real-world developmentEdit

Based on the experience, gained during the successful upgrade program of the British SA-80 / L85A1 program, HK decided to cure the existing M16 rifles and M4 carbines from most of their problems, inherent to this 40-years old design. One key improvement was the use of their patented short-stroke gas piston system, which was also used in their G36 series of rifles. This increased reliability over the M16's older direct gas system, no powder residue from extended firing sessions using the new system, as opposed to the M16's system. Other improvements include a new buffer assembly, a new bolt and cold hammer forged barrel.
