The Cuban Conflict was a conflict in which Ghost Recon took part in 2010.
Fidel Castro’s heirs have been unable to keep the fire of his revolution burning, and a popular uprising has toppled the Communist regime. In its wake, a fragile hope for democracy emerges. The interim President, Pedro Ebana, promises free elections, and requests international assistance to safeguard those elections. For there are those in Cuba who do not want to see a democratic regime, and they will do anything it takes – subversion, violence, or open revolution – to make certain that Cuba’s future is the one they create for it. From the midst of chaos, the call goes out for the Ghosts. Their mission: to ensure the integrity of the Cuban elections by thwarting any attempts made to subvert them. And as a violent revolution funded with drug money brews in the western provinces, it becomes clear that this might be the Ghosts’ most dangerous mission yet.
The first few missions, the Ghosts conducting operations against arms and drug shipping operations by agents and allies of Ariel Priego, the ultimate aim being to prevent any strong-arming of voters on election day. When election day comes, the Ghosts are responsible for protecting a voting center in Havana, a task that proves none too easy as men loyal to Priego assault the building and take hostages elsewhere in the city. Unsurprisingly, Priego loses the election badly. Becoming desperate, he asks for help from his backers in Colombia, and FARC sends in hired soldiers to take Cuba by force. The Ghosts assist in defeating this effort, and FARC soon decides to cut its losses.
Running out of allies, time, and options, Priego flees to an old fortress in a hilled section of Cuba. The Ghosts are ordered to assault the fortress and capture Priego alive. If he is killed, he could be made into a martyr all too easily, something that would be highly detrimental to the new Cuban government. The Ghosts succeed, destroying a helicopter that Priego had intended to use for his escape. Trapped and with his remaining soldiers killed, Priego surrenders.
