The Rangers are elite rapid-deployment military formation in the United States Army. Joe Ramirez was a Ranger before he joined the Ghosts. Joe Booth and Dalton Hibbard were Rangers who fought in the ultranationalist conflict before they were also recruited into the Ghosts. Holt is also suggested by in-game dialogue to be a former Ranger. Carl Bookhart was in the 3rd Battalion until 2005, and eventually joined the Santa Blanca Drug Cartel as the chief instructor of its security forces, before being killed by Ghost Leader Nomad.
